First Symptoms of Early Pregnancy

THE FIRST SIGNS OF PREGNANCY

These first signs of pregnancy might just surprise you!  Some you may be familiar with and some that might be new to you.

Women’s bodies react very differently during the first trimester of pregnancy but for all women, there will be some type of sign that will indicate pregnancy even if it is barely noticeable.

Some women will notice symptoms straight away and some may not notice anything unusual for a period of time.

Whichever way you have it, believe me, if you look hard enough the little telltale signs will be there for you to see.

During this precious time, your body will be going through a number of changes.

Some of these you might be a little worried about and some you might even be looking forward to.

WHAT WILL BE SOME OF THE FIRST SIGNS OF PREGNANCY THAT I WILL SEE?

1. MISSED PERIOD

The first thing that most women tend to notice is a missed period.

A missed period is usually a pretty good sign that you are pregnant but occasionally it could be down to something else like stress.

If a missed period is your only symptom then it would be a good idea to get a pregnancy test from your local pharmacy to make sure that your suspicions are correct.

2. MORNING SICKNESS

Morning sickness is the one symptom that everybody recognizes fairly quickly (even when you’re not pregnant! haha.)

Many people are confused about what morning sickness actually is.

You don’t have to physically throw up in order to have morning sickness.

For some people, they might just feel out of place and somehow not quite ready for the morning.

Others might run to the toilet to throw up but never actually will.

Personally speaking, when I am in my first trimester of pregnancy I feel quite queasy.  I can’t even think about food.

I have the urge to throw up but I never do and to be honest, I’m not sure which is worse.

To throw up and get it over with or to have the urge and nothing happens.

Morning sickness is never going to be pretty.

3. FATIGUE

As your body is working overtime to support your new baby it is inevitable that you will feel tired.

Unfortunately, there is not a whole lot you can do to change this.  Your best bet is to rest as much as possible.

To be honest, if you are feeling so tired that you feel unable to do other things then it’s probably a good idea to listen to your body and take the time to rest.

Once your baby comes it will be much more difficult to rest when you want to.

4. SORE BREASTS

Not every woman will actually experience sore breasts.  I certainly didn’t in every pregnancy.

There is no sure fire way to tell if you will get sore breasts or not.

Some women describe sore breasts as a heavy feeling rather than sore.

As your pregnancy progresses you will find that your breasts will enlarge and your areola may even darken in color.

This is due to the hormonal changes that are happening within your body.

You will experience so many hormonal changes as your pregnancy continues to progress.

5. MOOD SWINGS

Mood swings are completely normal during pregnancy.

There is a lot going on inside your body, your hormone levels are all over the place.

You might be worried about your baby, or concerned about how you will tell your family and friends or even your workplace, this all adds to your mood and can cause feelings of stress.

Your life has just taken a whole new turn around so it is understandable that you could be feeling somewhat unsure of things.

This combined with increased hormone levels is bound to give you mood swings.

Pregnancy is the one time that you are allowed to be a little grouchy. Phew!

6. FREQUENT URINATION

Even though your baby is still pretty small your uterus is growing to accommodate your baby.

This puts pressure onto your bladder causing the need for you to visit the loo more often than you would perhaps like to.

The good news is that this doesn’t last for the whole pregnancy term but it will be back again in the final trimester of pregnancy so be warned!

7. HEARTBURN

When you become pregnant your body produces more of the progesterone hormone.

The progesterone hormones job is basically to relax the muscles, predominately speaking the esophagus, which is responsible for keeping all the food and acid down in your stomach.

This type of heartburn is often referred to as acid reflux.  I tend to get quite a lot of acid reflux when I’m pregnant.

I have discovered that when I eat smaller portions of food more frequently rather than one big plate of food it helps to subside the feeling of my food wanting to rise up.

Another thing that can help is to not lie down straight after eating which can be really difficult when all you feel like doing is lying down and sleeping.

8. CONSTIPATION

Some women experience constipation during early pregnancy.

A good way to combat this is to try to eat much more high in fiber foods such as whole grains, brown pasta or oats.

9. SPOTTING

Spotting is a perfectly normal first sign of pregnancy albeit a little alarming if you are not sure what it is.

Spotting is basically very light bleeding that occurs when the fertilized embryo has implanted into the uterus.

You may even experience some mild cramping as well.

It should only be very light spotting and mild cramping.  If you experience anything more than this then you need to see a doctor immediately as it could be something more serious.

If you ever have any concerns about anything like this never feel too shy or embarrassed to get it checked out.

ALWAYS follow your gut when it comes to these things.  It’s always going to be better to check than pretend the issue is not there.

10. FOOD AVERSIONS

One minute you will love a particular food, next, you will loathe it.

The smell of some foods especially in the mornings will completely turn your stomach upside down.

Even the sight or the mere mention of it can make you want to heave.

These feelings will come and go as your pregnancy progresses.

You may even crave for certain types of food on and off.

There’s nothing wrong with giving in to the odd craving, just make sure that you are also eating a balanced meal too.

11. VAGINAL DISCHARGE

Vaginal discharge is something that happens quite early on.

You might notice a lot more than what you are used to seeing before you got pregnant.

The discharge will be milky clear in color and odorless in its smell.

If you have anything that is not similar to this then you should visit a doctor immediately.

The discharge you experience is your bodies way of keeping your uterus safe and free from infections.

FINAL THOUGHTS ON THE FIRST SYMPTOMS OF PREGNANCY

These signs of pregnancy will definitely give you a heads up if you have been wondering if you are pregnant or not.

Not all women will experience all of these signs of pregnancy but on the whole, you are likely to experience most of them in some shape or form.

Overall the first trimester will be a bit of a roller coaster as your body tries to find its feet so to speak.

There will be moments when it feels too hard but there will also be moments when everything is just beautiful.

The first trimester of pregnancy really doesn’t last very long so enjoy the moment while you can as you transition into motherhood.
